Bloomberg pledges 127 million dollars to address and close the achievement gap that exist between black and latino boys and their white counterparts.

How effective will it be? Who knows.

There are some crucial components missing that do not holistically address the needs of these communities but it is a start. I am hopeful because the issue is being targeted and given priority.

Just witness a glorious moment: I watched as a room full of 8th graders from undeserved communities captivated a room and showed a sense of maturity that many grown people lack.

It was truly a wonderful experience. In many of their faces, I saw my own drive and potential. As I starred in amazement, I reminisced on my own Summer Law Institute experience with Legal Outreach. Nine years later I am a Tufts graduate thanks to a program that introduced vision, leadership, passion, and most importantly no excuses.

Today, I saw once again why I fell in love with LO and why I stay a devoted member of a community that supported and shaped the course of my life in a way I could have never imagined. What we do, what LO does works. It is not only a college prep program but a loyal community ready to uplift all of its member with the only goal being turning students into the best person they can be. Thus transforming an individual and its community.

I already visited one of the places, Ghana. I was able to visit the slave castles, experience a resilient spirit and explore an amazing country.

I would love to visit Egypt, Palestine and Turkey.
